old new kit

For a little while now, I’ve thought about getting myself a 35mm film SLR. I really enjoy running several of my D90 and LX-100 photos through some film emulation software. I think that brought me to a point where I knew I needed to take the next step. A few weeks ago, and after quite a bit of research and trawling through eBay, I took the plunge and bought a used Olympus OM-1. Considering it was made in 1972, it is absolutely mint. And I love it. To increase my chances of taking reasonable photographs with it, I bought a Sekonic L398-A light meter. Between the two of them they need no batteries. All I need is a supply of user replaceable sensor material [also known as 35mm film], a more considered approach to taking my photographs, and I’m away. I’m lucky enough to have a local shop that can develop the film for me too, so I’m all set. I’ve created this page where you can find thumbnails and links to the film photos that I’ve scanned and blogged. It’s all a learning curve. Forcing me to slow down to take a photo instead is very refreshing. I think that given the pace of life these days, having something which forces you to slow down is no bad thing.
