Meet the legendary 35mm rangefinder camera that is the Voigtlander Bessa R. It’s lovely. Made in 2000, it’s not old by any standards, and it has the Leica screw (aka LTM, aka M39 screw) mount which means I can partner it with old lenses which are fantastic quality, but which don’t cost megabucks. Bought with a super little Russian lens called the Jupiter 8 (50mm f/2), I’ve now partnered the Bessa with the amazing Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.5 lens, as shown here. It’s a match made in heaven. I found a new source for my straps too – there is a chap who owns and runs 1901fotografi who makes all his straps by hand here in the UK. Absolutely superb quality for a very respectful price. I’ve recently received some scans back from using the Bessa with the Jupiter 8 and I’m very impressed (posts to come). I took the Bessa and the Nokton out today for a quick walk in the snow and took some shots on Fuji Acros 100 film, so I’m looking forward to seeing those results in a couple of weeks time. This is film camera number five. Wow – how did that happen…. :-)
