the shot

Of the four rolls and 48 shots on colour film that I developed and scanned recently, this image, for me, is the one I’m the most pleased about. The colour is a Kodak Portra 400 perfect rendition of the scene, with the beautiful pastel hues which that film produces. It scanned well due to it having plenty of light when the film was exposed. There is not much in the scene, yet it easily teleports me back to the place in time where I took it making me feel my freezing fingers and toes all over again. The image had a first version – one in which I used my old light source. That one needed work with the RGB sliders to get it right, and it wasn’t close. With a properly calibrated light source, being able to produce images like these is a reality for me now. And I’m pretty darn happy about that.
