long stand

These next few images were developed at home as normal, but instead of measuring the developer in order to develop it for a specific time based on the film stock and what it was exposed at, I used stand development. Stand Development is when you mix up a much weaker developer solution and leave the film immersed in it for much longer. Here, I used my Kodak HC 110 developer in ‘dilution G’ form which is one 1:119 and left the film in the tank for an hour after agitating it for the first minute. Basically 6ml of developer (I probably used closer to 7ml) topped up to 720ml water. The idea is that the developer exhausts itself quickly in the highlights but works longer in the shadows, bringing out more detail. The film used here is Ilford HP5 which I always push to 1600 and develop it at this speed because it gives much higher contrast, while still retaining the nice tonal range that the film is known for. I quite liked the stand development results here, and Ive actually used it on my last 5 rolls of black and white :-)
