hero #1

hero #1

Calum Macleod built a road from his village of Arnish, in the North of Rassay, to Brochel Castle. That’s about two miles. The reason? Well, after decades of unsuccessful campaigning by the inhabitants of the north end of Raasay for a road, and several failed grant applications, he figured that if you wanted something doing and no bugger would help you, you might as well do it yourself. So with a pick, a shovel and a wheelbarrow he did just that. I’m currently reading a book about it all. I doubt he ever knew just how much of a hero he’d turn out to be.
