Portfolio

For the last few years I’ve focused pretty much 100% of my photographic time on using film rather than digital. I much prefer the slower, tactile and manual aspects of shooting and developing my own black and white and colour film, and printing black and white in the darkroom. My portfolio images are mainly black and white, but do I use colour for some projects. I’ve experimented with various film stocks and processing methods, and over time I’ve begun to favour certain combinations. Film has no bounds, and black and white film in particular has a lot of latitude, meaning it can produce incredible images in a variety of different lighting conditions when married with certain processing techniques – the results of which may surprise you. Using film is fun, and taking the time to capture an image on film and have that methodical process slow you down is no bad thing these days. I scan and digitise my negatives at home and make my own darkroom prints (info here).

The items below are a selection of my current and ongoing analogue work. If you’d like to get in touch about a print or an image, or anything on this site, please contact me.
