Project : A65 Oasis

In 2020, around the time of Covid lockdowns, I discovered a wonderful little nature reserve next to the A65 on the outskirts of Ilkley. Having lived in the area since 2004, I'd shamefully and unknowingly driven past it hundreds of times. Since my discovery of this beautiful oasis, I've grown exceptionally fond of it and try to visit at least once a week. It's maintained by a group of volunteers who are constantly striving to look after and maintain the area. Never tidying too much or making things look too well-kept, they do a fantastic job at keeping things just right. As the months go by, restoration work continues to shine and new constructions appear - natural woven hedges and barriers, new wooden benches, bird houses, excavations to create water areas, newly sown wild flower areas, insect houses, carefully planned land management schemes to encourage and help wildlife and plants. The list is endless. It's cemented as a place very dear to my heart and on my lunch break from work, I'll often be found walking around it with a camera in my hand hoping to spot the otters or kingfishers again. I decided a little while ago that I'd like to undertake my own small piece of photographic documentary work (all shot on film obviously) to capture it as time goes by. It's a work in progress.
