Project : Moorland

I live on the edge of some beautiful moorland. Burley and Ilkley Moor is home to wildlife, walkers and wanderers. It's a place for thoughts and for thinking, and it's a place to go when you need some head space or just to have a good old leg stretch to blow the cobwebs away from the night before. I've walked and ran miles across the moor at different points in my life. Tears of sadness and happiness have fallen on the heather. It's a place very dear to my heart and I know I'm not alone. So in 2019 I decided to undertake a personal photography project to document this land. I knew it would take a while. I set myself some ground rules:

  • It would be shot film (obviously).
  • It would not just contain 'typical' landscape images, such as beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
  • It would contain images showing some lesser seen parts of the moor (quite a bold goal).
  • It would contain images showing the good and the bad.
  • It would contain images of the people who look after or work on the moor, either professionally or voluntarily.
  • It would contain images taken in all seasons and in all weathers.
  • It would tell a story and it would resonate with others.

It's a work in progress.
