It’s lovely. Made in 2000, it’s not old by any standards, and it has the Leica screw (aka LTM, aka M39 screw) mount which means I can partner it with old lenses which are fantastic quality, but which don’t cost megabucks. Bought with a super little Russian lens called the Jupiter 8 (50mm f/2), I’ve now partnered the Bessa with the amazing Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.5 lens, as shown here. It’s a match made in heaven. I found a new source for my straps too – there is a chap who owns and runs 1901fotografi who makes all his straps by hand here in the UK. Absolutely superb quality for a very respectful price. I’ve recently received some scans back from using the Bessa with the Jupiter 8 and I’m very impressed (posts to come). I took the Bessa and the Nokton out today for a quick walk in the snow and took some shots on Fuji Acros 100 film, so I’m looking forward to seeing those results in a couple of weeks time. This is film camera number five. Wow – how did that happen…. :-)

Meet the legendary 35mm rangefinder camera that is the Voigtlander Bessa R. It’s lovely.
