That&#8217;s about two miles.  The reason? Well, after decades of unsuccessful campaigning by the inhabitants of the north end of Raasay for a road, and several failed grant applications, he figured that if you wanted something doing and no bugger would help you, you might as well do it yourself. So with a pick, a shovel and a wheelbarrow he did just that. I&#8217;m currently reading a book about it all.
